A Quick Overview: Tokyo 2020, Japan 2019 and PyeongChang 2018

With the Winter Games in PyeongChang only a half a year away, many National Olympic Committees, broadcasters and sponsors are already looking ahead to the next Games.

One of the key comments about Tokyo 2020 is that it will become the most

expensive Games for visitors, ever. Costs of accommodation, transport and food are already high in Tokyo and is limited competition in the market. Most five-star hotels have announced their plans to sell their for well over $1000 per night. TOCOG, the local committee, struggles to sign contracts with the official hotels,as they insist on negotiating better conditions for themselves.

The Rugby World Cup in 2019 in Japan is not as high profile an event rates for accommodation and related services are not expected to climb a lot. Of course, this can change in September when the match schedule will be released. Fans from Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom are expected to flock to the Land of the Rising Sun.

The World Cup matches with these teams, togetherwith those of Japan, will be much sought after.

The new FIFA administration in Zurich will breathe a sigh of relief. Their first event, the 2017 Confederations Cup was a marvelous success. Russia put on a good performance, though there is room for improvement – especially as far as atmosphere at the stadiums are concerned. A major cause for concern for any traveler is the registration system that hotels have to go through, all international guests have to be registered with local authorities – and with this, each guest has to provide all registration forms from previous hotels. This process is reminiscent of the bureaucracy during the days of the Soviet Union. Be assured that Khaya is working on a system to ensure our guests won’t have any inconvenience when checking into hotels.
