Secure your spot in the mountains

Rates for accommodation at the Winter Games in PyeongChang are escalating. A survey by Khaya has shown that hotels which have rooms left are trying to sell those at a premium.

A hotel in the Bokwang area had to be taken off the list. Now St John’s is a candidate causing a lot of concern. The sectional title units haven’t sold well and the consortium might run into financial problems. Time is running out for the 1000-room hotel in the coastal cluster. Contrary to previous Olympics, there are only a few new hotels entering the market. One of them is Sky Bay, a mega hotel on the beachfront of Gangneung. A few rooms are in the market at rates over USD1000 per night. Khaya’s portfolio is getting thinner by the day. “It is almost impossible to find rooms for larger groups,” explains Khaya Sales Director, Rafael Sperotto. “There are only a few apartments and hotel rooms left in the mountain cluster.”

“My personal favourites are the apartments of Alpen Heim, next to the opening and closing ceremony stadium,” says Khaya country manager, Yeri Chun. “They are extremely spacious. Currently, they are undergoing renovation. I am sure they will be the perfect home for aspiring guests.” Other apartments Khaya has on offer are in walking distance of the International Broadcast Center (IBC). At Lausanne, five studio units are currently available. Just around the corner from it is White Ville - a condo with two- bedroom apartments.
