Ahead of the opening match of the 2017 Confed Cup, due to be hosted in St. Petersburg on the 17th of June at 5pm SAST, it becomes an interesting exercise to size up the two nations. While they have never met in a Head to Head clash, they so have some results to show from International Friendlies to World-Cup qualifying games.

As you can see from the above tables, team Russia has recorded a victory, a draw and 2 losses, compared to New Zealand's 3 victories and 2 draws. Some may argue that the latter was not facing as stiff competition as their Russian counterparts.
Did you know:
Russia is the largest country in the world, with an area in excess of 17 million square kilometres.
It is the 9th largest country by populations with 142 million inhabitants.
Let's compare some stats.
If Russia were your home instead of New Zealand, you would...
make 40% less money than someone living in New Zealand. The GDP per capita in Russia is $18,100 while in New Zealand it is $30,400
You would be 9% less likely to be unemployed. Russia has an unemployment rate of 5.80% while New Zealand has 6.40%
You would have 11% less free time. Employed persons in Russia work an average of 1980 hours each year while persons in New Zealand work an average of 1760 hours
You would spend a whopping 73% less money on health care. Per capita public and private health expenditures combined in Russia are $886.90 USD while New Zealand spends $3,291.80 USD
You would also use 21% less electricity. The per capita consumption of electricity in New Zealand is 9,259kWh while in Russia it is 7,285kWh
and lastly, you would be having 11% less babies than they do in New Zealand.
While the above facts are fairly random, try to memorise some of them. If you took note of yesterday's post about fine dining in St. Petersburg, these are facts you could casually recite whilst slurping some Borscht in the Palkin restaurant with friends and other soccer fans.
PS - Don't mention the rugby
